AmeriGlide Stair Lifts

As one of the major manufacturers of stair lifts, AmeriGlide is an American company located in Raleigh, NC and have been building electric and battery powered units since 2003. Known for having a reliable record when it comes to service calls and repairs, warranties on their products range from two years for parts to five years on the lift’s drive-train.

AmeriGlide Stair Lifts are designed in two distinct versions – rack and pinion and heavy duty cable driven stairlifts. Each version offers it’s own set of benefits, ranging from easy installation and low maintenance to heavier weight capacity and higher load carrying ability. Choosing the right lift for your home and situation is important, not only for cost savings but also to ensure you have the right equipment to secure your personal independence and make it easier to move around in your home.

AmeriGlide’s Ultra series includes models such as the Deluxe, Supreme, Premier, Heavy Duty and Sapphire stair lifts that are battery powered and are known for providing “ultra” smooth starts and stops. These provide good value and are easy to install.

For cable driven stair lifts, AmeriGlide makes both AC (electric) and DC (battery) powered units. These cable lifts usually offer even greater weight capacity, for example the HD version is designed for those weighing in excess of 350 lbs. Safety is ensured with the help of a steel elevator cable rated at over 4,000 pounds capacity and the lack of a circuit board leaves even fewer parts to maintain over the years.

While actual features vary by model and manufacture date, a typical AmeriGlide stair lift will feature a footrest obstruction, end of track and swivel seat safety sensors, rack and pinion drive, 1/2 horsepower motor with SoftStart and SoftStop technology. Expect a base of 300 lbs for weight capacity and the ability to control the stairlift with just one hand. Prices range from around $1,500 to $2,500 depending on features.

In true DIY (do-it-yourself) spirit, these are sold in kits with enough track and hardware to install on most staircases. You’ll get a dimensional drawing, installation manual and tips for measuring for the proper fit and finish. They’ve done a pretty good job putting together a package that can literally be installed in an afternoon. If you’re not inclined to tackle the job yourself, they offer a home installation service as well. Overall, we recommend this brand.
